Online Community Design & Administration
In
both the Business-to-Business (B2B) and
Business-to-Consumer (B2C) fields, the online
business community is the 'Grand Central Station'
and 'Main Street' all rolled into one.
Storm builds membership online business
communities, often in partnership with major
business organizations. Sophisticated technology and
infrastructure is an important part of that
equation, and Storm's online communities utilize
unique in-house database software with features such
as 'free-form text entry' for data and data
searches, complex multilingual data entry and
search, data entries as 'objects', and other feature
sets. It also offers search access over WAP mobile
phones and PDAs.
Yet in spite of the use of Storm's proprietary
solutions for the technical infrastructure, compatibility
with major and common ASP server software remains
(including MySQL), an important point if a client
does not want to get locked into a 'proprietary'
solution with all their eggs in one basket. Here,
Storm's business service division has ensured not
only technically elegant solutions, but solutions
'which work' from a business perspective.
However,
no matter what the technological infrastructure, an
online community will be a lonely place if it cannot
show:
a.) a value proposition such as lower costs and
higher sales for its members
b.) solid traffic
growth and
c.) regular updates and good content 'to
keep them coming back', along with new visitors.
